you do realize that 10,000 was the number of events, not the people who signed the pledge.

Beth is correct....I mis-read and mis-quoted. Millions signed the pledge and I have updated the blog to reflect this.

Hi MJ!

I was happy to read about your family's three steps towards more sustainable living! I have one suggestion to you though:

When it comes to those outdated, incandescent light bulbs - you shouldn't wait the old ones to burn out until you change them to CFL's since the amount of energy they waste is incomparable to the cost of throwing them away. Every day you leave an incandescent burning is a wasted day for the climate and a waste of money for you. (A CFL will save you between $30 and $45 over the life of the bulb. CFLs also last 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs, use five times less energy, [which means far less CO2 pollution] and give off 70 percent less heat.)

Ps. If every U.S. family replaced one regular light bulb with a CFL, it would eliminate 90 billion pounds of greenhouse gases, the same as taking 7.5 million cars off the road!
